Description
The Castle of Lichtenstein, also known as "Castle of the Faerie Tale", is located on a cliff in the mountains swab, next to Honau in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Its original construction dates back to around 1200. At the time, the lords of Lichtenstein have built on the spot, the castle "Alter Lichtenstein"
The current building was built between the years 1840 and 1842 on the initiative of Wilhelm I, Duke of Urach, Count of Württemberg. This noble, a passionate collector of weapons, armor and paintings, wanted a place to store their works of art and of course inspired by the novel "Lichtenstein" by Wilhelm Hauff, wanted an authentic medieval castle. The romantic style of neo-gothic castle was designed by architect Carl Alexander Heideloff.
