Description
The Royal Château de Chambord is a palace of France located in Chambord, Loir-et-Cher.
It is one of the most famous castles in the world due to its distinctive architecture in French Renaissance style that combines the traditional French medieval forms with classical Italian structures.
Although it is the largest castle in the Loire Valley, was built to serve as a hunting lodge for Francois I of France, who maintained his royal residences at Château de Blois and at Château d'Amboise. The original design of the Château de Chambord is attributed, though with several doubts, to Domenico da Cortona, whose wooden model for survived long enough to be drawn by André Félibien in the seventeenth century. Some authors, however, claim that the French Renaissance architect Philibert Delorme had a considerable role in the design of the house. Chambord was altered considerably over the twenty years of its construction (1519 - 1547).
